Successful Implementation of the Summer School “Drones and Crisis Situations”

The University of Applied Sciences Velika Gorica, in cooperation with partners from the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service, Croatia Control, and the Croatian Civil Aviation Agency, organized a Summer School titled “Drones and Crisis Situations.”
The Summer School took place from 24 to 28 June 2025, with the theoretical part held at the University of Applied Sciences Velika Gorica and the practical part in Vukovina. Participants included not only the University’s students but also members of the Croatian Centre for Earthquake Engineering – Emergency Response Service, as well as members of the Public Fire Brigades of Velika Gorica and Ivanić-Grad.
The curriculum covered topics such as an introduction to aviation terminology, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) operation, airspace risks and safety, legal regulations, operational procedures, UAV preparation, simulator flying, field exercises (UAV flight maneuvers), and case studies on the use of drones in crisis situations.
A total of nine participants successfully completed the online examination (subcategory A1/A3) through the Croatian Civil Aviation Agency’s platform, demonstrated UAV flight maneuvers in the field, and earned 2 ECTS credits upon successful participation in the Summer School.
