Velika Gorica University of Applied Sciences at the Conference on Contemporary Approaches to Disaster Management

A representative of the Velika Gorica University of Applied Sciences, Jelena Levak, mag. crim., lecturer, participated in the international conference “Katastrophenforschung trifft Einsatzpraxis – Drohnen und Robotik im Fokus” (Disaster Research Meets Operational Practice – Focus on Drones and Robotics), held from 18 to 20 September 2025 in Wels, Austria, and organized by the Disaster Competence Network Austria (DCNA).
The conference brought together numerous participants and representatives of operational services with the aim of exchanging experiences and knowledge on contemporary approaches to disaster management, the application of new technologies, and strengthening societal resilience to crisis situations.
On this occasion, Ms. Levak delivered a presentation titled “AI-Powered Robots in Medicine: Legal Challenges and Liability Frameworks in the EU,” in which she discussed legal challenges and liability issues related to the use of artificial intelligence and robotics in medicine. Her presentation emphasized the importance of developing a harmonized European legal framework that encourages innovation while ensuring a high level of safety, ethics, and protection of fundamental rights.
Participation in the conference provided an opportunity to establish connections with international experts in the fields of technology, law, and crisis management, further strengthening the international visibility and collaboration of the Velika Gorica University of Applied Sciences.
