VVG Students Participate in the Civil Protection Field Exercise “Traffic Accident Velika Gorica 2025”

The City of Velika Gorica organized a demonstration field exercise in civil protection titled “Traffic Accident Velika Gorica 2025”. The exercise took place on 18 October 2025, from 12:00 to 13:00, near the Gorica Stadium, focusing on operational response to complex traffic accidents involving hazardous materials.
The main objectives of the exercise were to ensure coordination among all engaged emergency services and operational forces in carrying out rescue and medical response measures at the accident site, and to verify the readiness and competence in using specialized equipment for traffic accident management and for mitigating the consequences of hazardous materials incidents.
A total of 36 students from the Velika Gorica University of Applied Sciences participated in the exercise, supporting the simulation activities (as vehicle passengers and media representatives) and serving as observers during the drill.
In addition, three VVG representatives participated as part of the exercise analysis team:
Petar Vitas, senior lecturer, dipl. ing.; Igor Milić, senior lecturer, mag. ing. admin. chris.; and Tihomir Varga, external associate.
Among the observers in the official program were Dean Dr. Tamara Čendo Metzinger, prof. struč. stud., dipl. soc., and Head of the Study Programmes in Crisis Management and Civil Protection, Dr. Martina Mihalinčić, prof. struč. stud., mag. pol.
The active participation of VVG students in such exercises (as part of field-based learning) significantly contributes to developing practical knowledge and skills in the area of civil protection systems.
