05.11.2025

Zagreb International Airport Ltd., in cooperation with Croatia Airlines Ltd., organized a joint emergency response exercise titled “Penkala 25.”

The exercise took place on 4 November 2025, from 22:00 to 24:00, at Franjo Tuđman International Airport.

The scenario involved an aircraft veering off the runway, followed by the evacuation, rescue, and medical treatment of passengers. The main objectives of the exercise were to test the readiness of all stakeholders in responding to an aircraft accident within the airport perimeter.

Another important goal of the exercise was to evaluate crisis communication procedures, including communication with families and friends of passengers present at the airport, as well as media communication, which included organizing a press conference at the airport premises.

A total of 45 students from the Velika Gorica University of Applied Sciences participated in the exercise, supporting the simulation activities (as passengers, media representatives, and family members of passengers).
In addition, two VVG representatives took part in the observer programme.

The active participation of VVG students in such exercises (as part of field-based learning) contributes significantly to the acquisition of practical knowledge and skills in the areas of aviation safety and crisis management.
