The Motor Vehicles study programme aims to educate professionals in planning, organization, and implementation of motor vehicle maintenance technology. Students will acquire modern knowledge and skills about the process of motor vehicle maintenance and motor vehicles servicing management.
Why study Motor Vehicles?
University of Applied Sciences Velika Gorica initiated the first Croatian undergraduate professional study of Motor Vehicles for the education of motor vehicle engineers which was first named Motor Vehicle Maintenance (2003) and then a modernized study programme was launched and called Motor Vehicles (2020).
Motor Vehicles study, with its universal name, is a compatible and easily recognizable study pogramme in Croatia and abroad. According to the Act on the Croatian Qualifications Framework (HKO), the study programme belongs to the sixth level of education, which refers to university-level and professional undergraduate studies.
The occupation of a motor vehicle engineer refers to a set of jobs that are technologically related and connected in their content and that future society will need to create a new value. Students will be equipped with applied knowledge and skills with an emphasis on maintaining vehicles in a roadworthy condition.
Upon the completion of their studies, students receive a professional title with the competencies clarified by a supplementary document:
- Title: professional bachelor (baccalaureus) motor vehicles engineer (eng. mech.).
- The supplementary document – diploma supplement shows in more detail the competencies of the bachelor’s degree in motor vehicle engineering.
Students who may enroll in the Motor Vehicles study program are those who have completed four-year secondary vocational education programs, especially technical secondary schools with an engineering orientation in the following occupations: for vehicle technician, mechatronics technician, mechanical technician, computer technician in mechanical engineering, and others. With enrollment to the University students continue their professional education in the profession of motor vehicle engineer.
Upon completion of their studies, students receive a professional title whose competencies are clarified by a supplementary document:
- Title: professional bachelor (baccalaureus) motor vehicles engineer (eng. mech.).
- The supplementary document – diploma supplement shows in more detail the competencies of the bachelor’s degree in motor vehicle engineering.
The Motor Vehicles study program enrolls students who have completed secondary four-year vocational education programs, mostly technical secondary schools with an engineering orientation, in the following occupations: vehicle and rolling stock technician, mechatronics technician, mechanical technician, computer technician in mechanical engineering, and other. By enrolling at the University of Applied Sciences Velika Gorica, students continue their professional education for the profession of motor vehicle engineer.
Competencies of the graduated students
Graduated students gain the knowledge and skills needed for managing the systems of motor vehicle maintenance and structural elaboration of parts at the level of professional studies. Knowledge is concrete – everything that a person should know, and skills – everything that a person should be able to do.
Competencies determine the jobs graduated students are trained for:
- planning and organization of maintenance of motor vehicles
- application of motor vehicle maintenance technology
- application of computer support for the development of motor vehicles
- control of the correctness of motor vehicles
- application of logistical support.
The study program
In the field of education, the creation of new values is based on the study programs. Introducing something better that is enabled by new technologies, upgrading the old or other kinds of transformations are innovative processes that create a new value.
Participants of the professional study Motor vehicles gain the knowledge necessary in the field of technical sciences, the field of mechanical engineering. The level of professional knowledge and skills is based on the knowledge of the construction of motor vehicles, the organization of servicing, the implementation of testing technology, and the maintenance of vehicles in a roadworthy condition.
All study subjects follow trends in the development of motor vehicles. The study programme has been modernized with innovative and attractive subjects:
- Electric and hybrid vehicles
- Testing of motor vehicles
- Computer-aided construction
- Communication skills.
The use of hybrid and electric vehicles creates a growing demand for jobs. The professional study of Motor Vehicles at the University of Applied Sciences Velika Gorica is in direct cooperation with the economy (Center for Vehicles of Croatia) and technology centers (TEC Tokić) and other institutions and companies (DOK-ING, Auto Hrvatska Automobili), which ensures the preparation of engineers for solving the problems of motor vehicles. Therefore, the Motor Vehicles study program is easily recognizable by employers.
Continuation of studies
After the completion of the undergraduate professional study of Motor Vehicles, students may enroll in the specialist graduate professional study of Logistics Management at the University of Applied Sciencs Velika Gorica to continue their professional education, or enroll in another graduate study.
The existing infrastructure for conducting classes at the University of Applied Sciences Velika Gorica, available IT equipment, teaching staff, and cooperation with institutions and companies from the private and public sector enable the smooth implementation of the Motor Vehicles study programme.
