Open Day with Drones, Cars, and a Panorama from Fire Truck Ladders

16.04.2025

The Open Day at the University of Applied Sciences Velika Gorica took place on Wednesday, April 9, and attracted around 150 high school students from local high schools—Economic School, Secondary Vocational School, Rudolf Perešin Aviation Technical School, and the Gymnasium of Velika Gorica.

We introduced our academic programs to the visitors in a very interactive way. Auto Gašparić showcased an electric off-road vehicle in the courtyard of the university, allowing the high school students to explore it both inside and out, learn about its performance, and ask a variety of questions.

In addition, employees from the Civil Protection Directorate demonstrated the use of modern technologies such as drones and thermal imaging cameras. The Velika Gorica Public Fire Department also joined us for the event. Visitors had the opportunity to see a fire engine and an aerial ladder with a basket, equipment used by firefighters in rescue operations from heights. Many visitors were eager to ride in the basket and enjoy the panoramic view of the city.

The Open Day program also included eye sharpness testing, presentations of new technologies using 3D printers, and the promotion of a book by our colleagues Dr. Marko Toth and Doroteja Bačurin titled “Maks’s First Earthquake”.

We also presented lifelong learning programs, and interested high school students visited classrooms to experience what it’s like to attend lectures in our study programs.

To make the day even more memorable for our visitors, we organized raffles and handed out promotional materials such as notebooks, blocks, T-shirts, and stress balls to those who were lucky in the draw.

The Croatian Society for Chronic Diseases was also with us on Wednesday, giving many young people the opportunity to measure their blood pressure, blood sugar levels, body mass index, and receive some nutritional advice.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our partners and cooperating institutions – the Public Fire Department of the City of Velika Gorica, the Civil Protection Directorate, and Auto Gašparić, as well as all the high school students and their professors who made this day such a success.

In this way, we fulfilled our goal of presenting our academic programs to the local community, as well as other activities we are involved in. We hope that we sparked the interest of many to become our students in the near future. The beautiful, sunny day also helped create a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere for everyone at the University.
