Ocular Pharmacology

Course Aims: The students will be provided with a strong knowledge base in pharmacology and therapeutics that will benefit the future optometry practice and the essential knowledge of the mechanisms of action of pharmacological agents and their therapeutic use in the treatment of ocular diseases. With this course students will learn how to select appropriate ocular pharmaceutical agents for cycloplegia, mydriasis, and topical anaesthesia, also how to describe the allergic/inflammatory response cascade and hence select appropriate pharmaceutical agents for the treatment of ocular allergy/inflammation and analyse the results of clinical examinations competently while acknowledging optometric limitations.
